Photot Hunt 9: Childhood

PSHunt

I am kind of frustrated because I wasn't able to do my intended sharing for this week's photo hunt theme. It would really take so much time that's why I postponed it. I have to go over all our childhood pictures and have to scan and maybe photoshop them. I just didn't have the time. It will come in another post. Another option I wanted to post was my husband's pre-school graduation picture. Haha. But he sure didn't want it to be posted here for all the visitors to see. So anyway, here's my take on my "childhood" photohunt.

These are two of the oldest books I was able to keep. Part of my childhood, late childhood I would say. I had them since I was thirteen. Juvenile books if there's such a thing. Girls in my age bracket then go for Sweet Valley High, Sweet Dreams and the college kids go for Mills and Boon. I choose my books randomly and I have a variety of interests from Catcher in the Rye to Roald Dahl books but these two books were my favorites back then. Well, just because.

You know the story, high school girls whose friendship disintegrated because of one overachieving girl who wants all the attention all to herself. I like their names, Jennie, Hillary and Emily, known as the Awesome Threesome. Junior high's take on popularity, jealousy, forgiveness. There's one character here I love so much, Paul "Classified", smart and good looking, the guy with the silent presence, you're just aware when he's around. Haha. So high school. What I liked about this book is that it was written diary type. Each characters write their stories on their life book and that's how each chapter unfolds.

The other one, Was it Something I Said, is about Bonnie (what a name) who just have to see the best things in her to earn that confidence in dealing with other people. And what I love about this book, she dumped the popular boy. Haha. Anyway, look at the pages, they're all brown and quite battered. Oh yes, I do put a plastic cover on all my books. :)

That's a great take on the theme! I have a lot of my old books too and even some of my grandparents. Thanks for bringing back that memory.

I had so many books as I child- you would think I would still have at least one. NOPE!

Nice idea for the theme.

I wish I still had my set of Nancy Drew books that I had when I was a kid but we moved a lot (my Dad was career Air Force) and I'm sure they were given to some other lucky girl somewhere! I hope!

Books were a huge part of my childhood, especially as an only child. And how I wish I had saved even just one! Treasure yours. Great choice for the theme.

Great take on the theme! I loved to read as a child (still do, just not enough time).

I don't remember either of those books, but then again, I didn't like to read as a kid. That is a neat picture, though! I don't think I have but maybe one book from my childhood, and it was a jr. high book!

Hey, I believe that I read one of those books (the second one)! I was so envious of all the girls names in those types of teenage books...my name was so plain and so uncool.

Great take on the theme!

My mom loves to read and she read a lot as a kid. Cool way to use the theme. Thanks for the complement about my kitten pictures. Nice to meet you.

This reminds me that my mum is moaning that I need to go and collect the rest of my things (mainly books) from hers now that I'm buying my own place, so she informs me.

I wish I still had some of the books I read as a child. There's just something nice about having a piece of your childhood still around. :) Excellent choice for the topic!

wonderful memories ... the simplicity of the stories but oh the emotions what you felt when you were reading them as a teenager - everything felt so much bigger, stronger and more important :)

That second book looks awfully familiar to me. Either I've read it as a kid myself, or I saw it way too many times sitting on the shelf of the library lol

Thanks for the comment you left on my blog!

Oh! This brings back fond memories. I was a child of the eighties so all of those titles sound familiar to me too. It cracks me up that you put plastic on your books! I think they call this genre the "youth" section but I could be wrong. It's been a few years...

OHHH... this is a GOOD one! I don't think I read those but they sound like familiar themes from my own youth!

Great idea! I never read those, but I also kept most of my childhood books and toys. My children enjoy them now. Thanks for stopping by!

What a great idea for the theme! Reading books as a child opens up the world forever! Mom has very fond memories of some of her pre-teen books, but alas, they have long been lost....

I've heard of Roald Dahl, but not those books. My oldest loved the movie version of his book, "Witches," with Angelica Huston. I remember taking him to the theatre to see it.

What a great idea for the theme. I still have a few of the books from when I was younger. I have a few Dr Suess books that are about 35 years old and in my preteens I collected all the older Nancy Drews and still have them and reread them occasionally for fun. Thanks for sharing and have a great weekend.

Hi Lynn. Thanks for visiting my photo hunt. I went out today and I'm now catching up with my comments.

Oh, I remember Sweet Dreams, Sweet Valley High and Mills and Boon too. I have given away majority of them but I have kept a few of my favorites. Same here, I covered all my books with platic back then.

I never thought of a book from your childhood.
I never did keep a dairy or journal when I was young.
I thought of taking a picture of some playground equipment.

My photo is up.

I used to keep my old story books during my primary & secondary school days too. I think my collection was gone when my parent shifted house few years back.

I think you did a great job in choosing these items for the theme this week.

Both of those look vaguely familiar. I went through a stage when I read all of that sort of book--all the same basic plot but still I had my favorites. Those are all gone--the only ones I kept were the "good" books--the classics that I read again and again and which stand the test of age and time.

Great take on the theme!! I love to read and that love started when I was a child! I grew up with books and was always visiting the library for new ones! I love that you have some of your favorite books from your childhood!

Happy Saturday!

I think I also have that second book lying somewhere in my parents' house, and looking at the price tag, we probably bought it at the same Used Books place! I can't remember the name now, but they had a store in Virra Mall, Greenhills.

Books were my favorite pastime. I remember one called Follow My Leader about a boy who became blind after he played with fire crackers and his experience in learning with a seeing eye dog. I must have read it ten times. A few months ago I looked it up on Google and found the author then searched the library system locally and to my surprise, they had a copy. It is amazing to look back and see what we were reading. Oh, and my favorite book of childhood was the Swiss Family Robinson.

Wonderful. I love to read books too. It is good that you were able to preserve these books you have read when you were younger. My old books are not around anymore, so is my Marvel and DC comic books collection. *sigh*

Mine is up too.
